SKA Alignment
The GYSU initiative is directly related to the Sustainable Development Goals SDG6, Clean Water and Sanitation, and SDG2, Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture. Other SDGs it is secondarily related to are SDG12 and SDG13.
SDG6 Clean Water and Sanitation
Sub targets of SDG6 include improving water quality by reducing pollution, minimizing chemical runoff and agricultural pollution, increasing water use efficiency across sectors, and protecting and restoring water ecosystems including rivers, groundwater, and wetlands.
Proper fertilizer management reduces the mixing of nitrogen and phosphorus into surface and groundwater. Algal blooms and eutrophication are prevented. Groundwater nitrate pollution decreases. Water is used more efficiently in agriculture. In this way, the SDG6 target is supported.
SDG2 Zero Hunger, Sustainable Agriculture
For SDG2, it is necessary to promote sustainable agricultural practices that improve soil quality, reduce environmental impacts, and increase resilience to climate change.
Proper fertilization and soil management ensure efficient use of nutrients. A foundation is created for strengthening regenerative agriculture practices. Agricultural productivity is maintained while reducing environmental impacts.
SDG12 Responsible Consumption and Production
This SDG, which focuses on improving chemical and nutrient management, is aligned with the implementation objectives of the GYSU initiative.
SDG13 Climate Action
Fertilizer optimization targeted by the GYSU initiative reduces N₂O emissions, and improved water efficiency increases climate resilience.
